God Really Answers Prayers

Written by Wendy Kemp

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9

Literature evangelist Wendy Kent and her husband Phil recently had to make a trip to Toowoomba (Queensland). He had some appointments there and Wendy needed to catch up with some of her customers.

As they planned their trip, they decided to stay with one of their friends, who was also a literature evangelist. Unfortunately, the night before they were due to leave, the friend rang and apologised, saying that they would be unable to host Wendy and Phil as originally planned.

Left with no alternative accommodation, Wendy and Phil decided to stay in a motel. Knowing that this would cost more money than they had budgeted for the trip, Wendy quietly prayed that God would help
her sell some books to cover the extra cost.

When Phil and Wendy checked into the motel, they met the motel manager, whose name was Tamsin. She seemed open and friendly, and Wendy thought it would be a good idea to show Tamsin her books. But
she didn’t want to appear pushy. So, she prayed and asked God for an opportunity to speak with Tamsin.

“As the days passed, our days were full and busy,” said Wendy. “Consequently, I forgot about my plea to God—but He didn’t!”

On their last morning in Toowoomba, Phil went out to his final appointments. Thinking that the couple had left together, Tamsin entered the room.

“I got frightened by her unexpected entrance,” noted Wendy. “Tamsin went red with embarrassment. She apologised but I invited her in and told her not to worry. I remembered my prayer to God and knew
that this was the opportunity that I had prayed for!”

As Wendy showed Tamsin her books, Tamsin fell in love with them immediately. She eagerly purchased several books and mentioned that she was interested in natural healing.

“I thought of God, knowing that all healing comes from Him,” said Wendy. “So, I left her with a copy of Steps to Christ—a most precious book!”

Tamsin later sent an email to Wendy, which said, “Thank you again for selling me the books! I love them! Please stay in touch. I want to look at more books like this.”

“I praised God for His answer to my prayer,” said Wendy. “Phil and I thought our plans had been disrupted, but later realised that it was always God’s plan for us to stay at that motel.”
